Effects of Pueraria Radix isoflavone (PRI) extract on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats

Background and Aim: Cessation of ovarian function is a major cause postmenopausal osteoporosis. Ovariectomized rats dogs have been used extensively in osteoporosis models. This study examined the effect Pueraria Radix isoflavone extract not only on Bone Mineral Density (BMD) but also bone strength using formation resorption markers ovariectomized as an model. Methods: The model (OVX) induced by ovariectomy previously described was evaluated through measurement BMD, distal femoral metaphysis levels urinary deoxypyridinoline serum osteocalcin. Results: In rat administrated with (only 90 mg/kg) for 12 weeks, BMD significantly increased, while doses 60 mg/kg decreased osteocalcin to normal level elevated metaphysis. Conclusion: These results suggested that may be useful traditional medicine due stimulated resorption.
